Five Ways to Layer Lamp Light Through Your Home
Share
Overhead lighting alone tends to flatten a room — every corner lit the same way, nothing to draw the eye. Layering in a couple of table lamps fixes that instantly. Here are five simple ways we like to style them at home.
- Pair two matching lamps on a console or sideboard for symmetry, then break the pattern with one different accent lamp elsewhere in the room.
- Keep bedside lamps at shoulder height when seated in bed — low enough to read by, without casting light straight into your eyes.
- Use a warm bulb (around 2700K) in living spaces; it's the difference between a room that invites you to stay and one that feels like an office.
- Group lamps at different heights — a floor lamp, a table lamp, a smaller accent piece — to create depth instead of one flat wash of light.
- Turn off the overhead light entirely some evenings and let two or three lamps do all the work. It changes the whole mood of a room.
